Blogging is time consuming, takes a lot of effort, and can be tough sometimes. Balancing life can be difficult when you have to manage the blog along with studies, family, job, and a social life. There are just so many things we constantly find ourselves stuck with. Some are real issues, and some are, sadly, ways to procrastinate.
BIGGEST BLOGGING MISTAKE:
Among all of this, we find ourselves committing one of the biggest blogging mistakes ever. We stop posting. We become inconsistent. We feel so overwhelmed by everything going on in our lives, that we find it easier to cut out at least one burden from our lives, and sadly that’s blogging.
I have been a victim of this disease. I had made a pact with myself not too long ago that I would be a responsible blogger and would be consistent with quality posts. But unfortunately, my last post was live on 11th May. Almost a month ago. I lacked because I had “reasons” including being “too busy” during exams (nobody is ever “too busy”), and having the burden of shifting houses. Although I do believe that these reasons are valid enough for me to take a small break, I don’t think that I was completely unable to update the blog. It’s not that I didn’t have time, it’s just I didn’t want to make time.
We all have at least a little time each day to add something to the blog; adding a paragraph to the blog post, taking pictures for the post, etc. Little at a time is better than nothing at all. But we don’t do it, and that’s one of the worst thing a serious blogger could do to his/her blog. It confuses your audience, ruins your reputation, your SEO is damaged, and you won’t gain the benefits you strive for.
Schedule posts. Take some time at the start of each month and schedule a few posts beforehand. By doing this, you will find yourself wanting to stay consistent.
Have a list of blog posts you want to write and have the list close by. Looking at the list every day will ignite that passion in you again and inspire you to write more.
Be passionate about the posts you write. If you’re posting just to fill in the space, it will drain your energy and blogging will soon start to feel like a chore. Blogging is to be enjoyed. Choose topics that you want to write about.
Set realistic goals. If from day one, your goal is to write a post that will break all records, it will just disappoint you. There is no shortcut to success. Set small and realistic goals that you can work on every day and get the rewards back to back. The feeling of accomplishment will motivate you to work harder towards your bigger goals.
Don’t be inconsistent with your blog. No matter how busy you are, take at least 10 minutes of your day and dedicate them to the future blog post. Always remember, you have to make time for what you prioritize. Is blogging really a priority? If it is, then it shouldn’t be a burden.
Make sure to share with me what you think is the biggest blogging mistake.
